Start a chat from Home or the Treasury AI page

Treasury AI answers in a chat. Type in the Ask about your finances… box on Home or the Treasury AI page, then select Send message (the arrow).

On a phone, there’s no Treasury AI tab, so ask from the box at the bottom of Home. A question asked on Home starts a new chat on the Treasury AI page. On a computer, you can also press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows), type a question and select Ask Treasury about it.

On Home, Treasury AI suggests up to four questions about your own money, next to the box. They change from day to day, and a phone shows fewer when space is short. Select one to send it.

In a new, empty chat on the Treasury AI page, these suggestions send a ready-made question:

  • Budget deep dive reviews a budget’s categories and any overspending.
  • Net worth snapshot shows your net worth, accounts and trend.
  • Upcoming bills lists what’s due in the next two weeks.
  • Subscription audit totals your subscriptions and flags any worth canceling.

On Home and the Treasury AI page, suggestions hide while you type.

Questions that get good answers

Treasury AI answers best when a question names a period, account, budget or amount. For example:

  • “How much did I spend on dining out in May compared with April?”
  • “Show my transactions over $200 this month.”
  • “Where did my money go last month?”
  • “Which debt should I pay off first?”
  • “How long until my car loan is paid off if I add $100 a month?”

Start with “Show me” to get a card instead of text. Treasury AI may first ask a short follow-up question with options. For the data it uses, see What Treasury AI can look at.

Cards and charts in answers

Treasury AI can answer with cards drawn from your Treasury data:

  • Budget list: up to 20 of your budgets.
  • Budget analysis: a budget’s totals and each category against its target. Select a category for its top transactions.
  • Budget flow: a diagram of one budget’s money in flowing to its categories.
  • Spending flow: the same diagram, titled Money Flow, across all accounts. It shows this month unless you name a period.
  • Transactions: matching transactions and their total.
  • Spending summary: merchants, categories or tags ranked by total, average or count.
  • Accounts overview: net worth and every account, grouped by type.
  • Net worth: your net worth, its change and a trend line.
  • Recurring payments: bills, subscriptions and income with amounts and next dates.
  • Upcoming payments: recurring bills and income due in the next 30 days, or the window you ask for. Card due dates are on the Credit cards card.
  • Credit utilization: how much of your credit limits you use, from Excellent to Maxed Out.
  • Credit cards: each card’s balance. Select a card for its statement, Minimum, Due date and APR.
  • Debts: loans and cards carrying a balance, highest rate first. Cards paid in full each month are left out.
  • Connections: each bank’s status, with All healthy or a count of issues.

Most card headers open the matching page in Treasury. A flow diagram needs both money in and money out. There’s no investments card, so investment answers come as text.

Dictate a question

  1. In the Ask about your finances… box, select Dictate a message (the microphone), then speak.
  2. Select Stop recording and transcribe (the tick). Your words appear in the box.
  3. Check the text, then select Send message.

To cancel, select Discard recording. Recording stops and transcribes itself when you pause for a few seconds, or after 2 minutes. Dictation counts toward Treasury AI’s weekly limit.

If dictation doesn’t start:

  • Microphone access is off. Turn it on in Settings > Treasury. means the iPhone app needs microphone access in your iPhone’s Settings.
  • Microphone access is blocked. Allow it in your browser settings. means your browser needs microphone access.
  • Update to the latest version of Treasury to use dictation. means your Treasury app is out of date. Select Update to open the App Store.
  • A greyed-out microphone means this browser can’t record, or dictation isn’t available right now. Type your question instead.

Stop an answer

While Treasury AI answers, Send message becomes Stop generating (the square). Select it to stop.

The part already written stays on screen until you leave, but Treasury doesn’t save a stopped answer. Reopen the chat and only your question is there. A stopped answer still counts toward your weekly limit.

Find, rename, pin or delete a chat

  1. Select Conversation history (the speech bubbles) on Home or the Treasury AI page. On a computer, recent chats also show in the sidebar.
  2. With 8 or more chats, use Search your conversations to find one by its name or words in it.
  3. Open a chat to continue it, or select New chat.

To change an open chat, select its name at the top of the Treasury AI page, then:

  • Rename: type up to 100 characters, then select Save.
  • Pin: keep it at the top of your history. You can pin up to 20 chats.
  • Delete: confirm with Delete.

A chat’s ⋯ menu in Conversations or the sidebar can also pin or delete it. In Conversations, Delete doesn’t ask first.

Deleting a chat removes its messages and can’t be undone. It doesn’t delete what Treasury AI remembers.
