If you can’t find your bank

Treasury connects to banks through Plaid. For the countries it supports, see Connect a bank.

  1. In the Plaid window, search for your bank’s full name, or the name on its website.
  2. If it still isn’t listed, close the Plaid window. Add the account in Settings → Manual Accounts instead, or import its transactions.

While you link your first bank during setup, closing Plaid after a search shows “Can’t find your bank? You can continue without it.” Select Skip for now to carry on without that bank. If you’re moving from another app, it reads Import from [app] instead or Import a file instead.

If Treasury can’t reach your bank

Banks sometimes stop answering Plaid for a while, for example during maintenance. Treasury doesn’t show a bank’s status. In Settings → Connections, Plaid explains the problem in its own window.

While you link your first bank during setup, Treasury shows one of these messages instead:

  • “We can’t connect to your bank right now. You can try another bank or connect later.” means the bank isn’t answering. Try again later.
  • “We can’t connect to this bank right now. You can connect another account or add this one later.” means Plaid can’t connect to that bank at the moment.

In the meantime, connect your other banks, or add the account in Settings → Manual Accounts.

If your bank login or code isn’t accepted

While you link your first bank during setup, a sign-in problem in Plaid shows one of these messages. Elsewhere, Plaid shows its own message in its window or in a notice.

  • “We couldn’t verify your bank login. Please try again.” Check that the same username and password work on your bank’s website, then try again.
  • “Your bank needs your attention. Sign in to your bank first, then try again.” Your bank may have locked the login or want you to accept something. Sign in on the bank’s website or app first.
  • “Plaid couldn’t verify that code. Try again and choose ‘Continue without phone number’.” Plaid’s phone number step is optional, so you can skip it.

If your bank’s own sign-in page doesn’t bring you back

Some banks send you to their own website or app to approve Treasury, then back to Treasury.

  • “Your bank didn’t finish connecting. Try again and approve access.” means the approval was cancelled or declined at the bank. Treasury shows it while you link your first bank during setup.
  • A Connection failed page with “Session expired. Please try connecting your account again.” means Treasury lost track of the attempt. This can happen when the bank returns you to a different browser or tab.
  1. In Settings → Connections, select New Connection and start again in the browser or app you’ll finish in. During setup, start again from the Link your accounts. step.
  2. At your bank, approve access and choose the accounts to share.
  3. Wait for the bank to send you back to Treasury.

If the secure connection won’t open

“We couldn’t open the secure connection. Please try again.” means Plaid’s window didn’t load. During setup and imports, the same problem can show as “Your bank connection is taking longer than expected. Please try again.” That appears when Plaid’s window hasn’t opened after 30 seconds.

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. In Connect Bank Account, select Try again. After a failed Reconnect, select Try again in the notice.

While you link your first bank during setup, “You’re offline. Reconnect to continue linking your accounts.” means your device lost its internet connection.

If Treasury says the accounts are already connected

Treasury shows “One or more accounts from this institution are already connected to your account.” when you connect a bank you already have. It appears when an account has the same type and last four digits as one already connected.

To add more accounts from that bank, reconnect it and tick them in the Plaid window. The check only looks at banks still in Settings → Connections.

If an account is missing after you connect

Plaid only shares the accounts you tick when you sign in. To share one you missed:

  1. In Settings → Connections, open the bank’s ⋯ menu and select Reconnect.
  2. In the Plaid window, tick the missing account, then finish.

Treasury adds newly shared accounts when the bank next syncs. An account that is there but greyed out is excluded or disconnected: see why an account is greyed out.

An account that already shows Disconnected from Plaid doesn’t come back when you tick it again. It stays disconnected.

If investments, card or loan details are missing

A bank you connected before may not share investments, or card and loan details such as due dates and rates, yet.

  1. In Settings → Connections, open the bank’s ⋯ menu.
  2. Select Add investments, Add liabilities or Add investments & liabilities. The menu only offers what the bank can share.
  3. Approve sharing in the Plaid window. Treasury syncs the bank, and on a computer shows “Connection updated”.

Add liabilities only appears for a bank with a credit card, PayPal credit, mortgage or student loan that isn’t excluded or disconnected. The Add investments button in Investments, and Add card details or Add loan details on an account’s page, do the same.

If a bank can’t share something, Treasury names it, for example ”[Bank] doesn’t share investment accounts through Plaid.”

If transactions are slow to appear

Each bank in Settings → Connections shows a green dot with when it last updated, Syncing… while it updates, or Action Required with a red dot. On a phone, only the dot shows.

  • A green dot with an old time: sync the bank. A purchase can take a few days to reach your bank’s feed.
  • Action Required: your bank needs you to sign in again, or Treasury’s access is about to expire. Reconnect the bank.
