Create your account

Treasury has no password. You create your account with Google, Apple or your email address.

  1. On Treasury’s sign-up page, select Continue with Google or Continue with Apple.
  2. To use email instead, enter your First Name, Last Name and Email, then select Get Started.
  3. If you used email, enter the code Treasury sends you on Verify your email. Then select Create passkey on Add a passkey.

A passkey is optional. If creating one fails or you cancel it, select Skip for now. You then sign in with an email code instead.

If the email already has an account, Treasury emails you a sign-in code instead. Enter it on Check your email. See Sign in or recover your account for passkeys and codes.

Choose what you want help with

After you sign up, Treasury greets you by name. Select Get Started to answer What brings you to Treasury?

Pick as many goals as you like, such as Track my spending or Pay off debt faster. Then select Continue. To skip the question, select Continue without picking.

If you signed in with the wrong account, select Sign out at the top of the welcome screen.

Start fresh or bring your history

On How would you like to start?, choose one option, then select Continue to connect accounts:

  • Start fresh sets Treasury up from the accounts you link.
  • Bring my history imports past transactions and categories from Monarch, Rocket Money or Another app.

With Bring my history, you link your banks first and import afterwards. Treasury adds your history to those accounts. To see how this order avoids duplicates, see Switch in this order.

Link your accounts

Setup asks you to link your banks, cards and brokerages through Plaid. For what Treasury can see and do with them, see What Treasury can see from your bank.

  1. On Link your accounts., select Link your accounts.
  2. Sign in to your bank in the Plaid window and choose the accounts to share. Treasury asks for up to two years of history.
  3. To add another bank, select Link another account.
  4. When the list shows all your banks, select Continue.

You can connect more later in Settings → Connections. For the countries Treasury supports, see Connect a bank.

If you can’t find or connect your bank

If Plaid can’t find or connect your bank during setup, Treasury explains why on Link your accounts. For example, it may say Can’t find your bank? You can continue without it.

Some problems offer a button to try again, and others let you go on without that bank.

When Skip for now appears, select it to finish setup without a bank. If you chose Bring my history, it says Import from Monarch instead, Import from Rocket Money instead or Import a file instead. You can add the account later in Settings → Manual Accounts.

How Treasury sets up your categories

After you link your banks, Treasury sets up its standard starter categories and sorts your transactions into them. If you already have categories, such as from an import, Treasury keeps yours. You see Analyzing your transactions., Understanding your patterns. and Creating your categories. while it works.

If it stops with an error, select Try again. You can rename, add or remove categories later. See Create, edit or merge categories.

Start your plan or free trial

You need a plan or free trial to use Treasury’s main pages, such as Home, Budgets and Transactions. Setup ends with Treasury’s plans. Choose Annual or Monthly.

If you’ve never had a Treasury plan, select Start my 14-day free trial. Treasury shows $0 today under the button. Otherwise the button shows the plan and its price.

The trial starts when you finish checkout. Billing starts automatically when the trial ends, unless you cancel before then. In the iPhone app, you can also select or continue with in app purchase or Restore Purchases. See Plans, trial and billing.

Find your first budget on Home

Treasury opens on Home. While Home shows Preparing your budget, Treasury is building a first budget. If it finds enough recent spending to work from, the amounts come from your transactions. Otherwise it starts from a standard template you can adjust.

The budget is named after you, such as “Alex’s first budget”, or “My First Budget”. Alex is an example name. It becomes your primary budget on Home. If you already had a budget, Treasury keeps it instead. You can change it or create another budget. To find your way around, see What Treasury does.
